Hello everyone. New here, tried quite a few apps and I’m staying with this one. Good job!
Chiming in what I’d like to see
A year view in analytics would be helpful (I’d like to expand the timeframe to 2 years, 5 years, and all time as well). Most of my subscriptions are yearly - I’d like to budget it yearly as a monthly average instead of going over a budget in one month when the yearly subscription is paid.
The current line graphs show no numbers. I’d much prefer to see numbers there too, on both axes.
Subcategories would be helpful. Show categories first (total budget for all subcategories) and only when I tap on a category I would see all subcategories (each with its own budget). For example, I’d have a total “Car” budget with various subcategories in it, e.g., “Fuel”, “Servicing”, “Running costs” (like insurance, road tax, breakdown cover, etc).
Net worth over time line chart on the dashboard. There are really too many unnecessary things on the dashboard, like invite a friend in banner, invite a friend round button, Cashback - they could go into “More…” menu - it’s not something you need to see daily. I won’t invite a friend just because there’s a button in the middle of the screen - it just annoys people (Emma is the only app that has that button in such an obttrusive way by the way from the apps I tried out). When I will invite a friend, I’ll know where to find it if you put it in the “More” tab. I know you want more people to use it, but that’s not the way to go about it - by annoying your existing users.
What I also notice is that these kind of apps tend to have the transaction list as one of the main screens. Albeit it’s good to see all transactions in one list (from multiple accounts), it’s still something I can just see in my banking app. What we need from these kinds of apps is analysis, graphs and charts. That should be the main emphasis.
Thanks!
Upd: oh, and I forgot - please let us change category for a pending transaction. Other apps allow to do it and I usually update them when I make a purchase. Here I need to wait until it’s not pending anymore and may forget to change it.
Hey @unique - welcome to the Emma Community and thanks for all this feedback!
You can click on the graph and follow the curve and the number will change at the top - realize that we could make this a bit clearer though.
We have thought about this in the past and do see the benefits of it - if you’re on Emma Pro you can set custom categories which could then act as subcategories like “fuel”, “servicing” etc
Thanks for your feedback on this - we’re in the process of redesigning a few screens so you may find that this changes soon
After a few weeks using it (Emma Pro), now the biggest issue I have and therefore the most wanted feature is the ability to edit pending transactions (change category, split, add tags). Right now it pops up the “Hey, slow down” message. After a few days when the transactions are no longer in pending status, I need to come back, login into my bank or other apps, like Amazon or Apple transaction history and see what was it I bought for that amount, because I don’t remember anymore. It’s really annoying. I like to do that on the day I buy something, not a few days later.
By the way, other big name similar apps I’m was using the first couple of weeks when I tried to see which one I will stay with, did let to do this to pending transactions. Please!!
Should be pretty straightforward: if the pending transaction goes away and there’s a new transaction for the same amount, then apply the tag(s), category, notes to the new transaction (I’ll be able to edit them if something’s wrong anyway - not the end of the world if you happen to guess it wrong from time to time). If the pending transaction disappears but a new transaction with the same amount cannot be matched, then just default to whatever you’re doing when there’s a new transaction. For me, 99% of the pending transactions won’t change the amount or name (date will change, yeah, so don’t take that into consideration) - don’t see what’s the problem there, to be honest.
Haha, the difficulties are explained a little more in the link shared by @o99, but it’s also part of a bigger conversation we’re having around notifications/ reminders! So if we could make the changes like you say, we also need to think about if they’re the right changes long term!
Interesting. I didn’t want to mention the names, but I tried quite a few apps together with Emma and the two other I kept for longer - Moneyhub and Money Dashboard (Neon) both allowed to assign categories, etc to pending transactions.
From experience, it seems Emma is against manual solutions, as a principle, but manual reconciliation of pending could work.
Soooooo
Pending transaction
You “edit” it, thereby creating a virtual manual transaction
When the pending disappears, you’re asked to link the virtual transaction to a confirmed transaction, or delete it
A web-browser version! Really loving the app so far, but I sometimes like to view my spendings or sort my budget using a keyboard and through a bigger screen.
I would like to suggest on the Analytics screen, the total circle at the top be as a pie chart to colour code the various budget pots as I’m quite a visual person?
That’s a nice idea! So would you just want the chart to show what you’d spent your money on so far, and not how much money you had left to spend in each category?
