After a few weeks using it (Emma Pro), now the biggest issue I have and therefore the most wanted feature is the ability to edit pending transactions (change category, split, add tags). Right now it pops up the “Hey, slow down” message. After a few days when the transactions are no longer in pending status, I need to come back, login into my bank or other apps, like Amazon or Apple transaction history and see what was it I bought for that amount, because I don’t remember anymore. It’s really annoying. I like to do that on the day I buy something, not a few days later.
By the way, other big name similar apps I’m was using the first couple of weeks when I tried to see which one I will stay with, did let to do this to pending transactions. Please!!
Hey @unique ![]()
This is why we currently don’t let you edit pending transactions:
However a couple of other Emma users have mentioned they’d like this feature as well, so we’re thinking about how we can add/ improve this!
Ability to edit pending transactions is my number one most wanted feature! There is some relevant community discussion here
Which ones?
My understanding from the linked thread is that it’s a very challenging problem to solve.
Should be pretty straightforward: if the pending transaction goes away and there’s a new transaction for the same amount, then apply the tag(s), category, notes to the new transaction (I’ll be able to edit them if something’s wrong anyway - not the end of the world if you happen to guess it wrong from time to time). If the pending transaction disappears but a new transaction with the same amount cannot be matched, then just default to whatever you’re doing when there’s a new transaction. For me, 99% of the pending transactions won’t change the amount or name (date will change, yeah, so don’t take that into consideration) - don’t see what’s the problem there, to be honest.
Haha, the difficulties are explained a little more in the link shared by @o99, but it’s also part of a bigger conversation we’re having around notifications/ reminders! So if we could make the changes like you say, we also need to think about if they’re the right changes long term!
This is the most challenging technical issue we have ever faced in Emma, which, as of today, is not solved by any other company. ![]()
The link at the top gives a full breakdown of the issue. We’ll definitely solve it long term, but not today. ![]()
Interesting. I didn’t want to mention the names, but I tried quite a few apps together with Emma and the two other I kept for longer - Moneyhub and Money Dashboard (Neon) both allowed to assign categories, etc to pending transactions.
Yes,
I have no confidence they have solved it.
It might work for a few accounts and break for others (that’s why it’s not possible as of today).
From experience, it seems Emma is against manual solutions, as a principle, but manual reconciliation of pending could work.
Soooooo
Pending transaction
You “edit” it, thereby creating a virtual manual transaction
When the pending disappears, you’re asked to link the virtual transaction to a confirmed transaction, or delete it
A web-browser version! Really loving the app so far, but I sometimes like to view my spendings or sort my budget using a keyboard and through a bigger screen.
Ahh yes! This has been mentioned a few times now - it’s something we’d love to do (but not yet!
)
Dark mode! Pleaaaaaaase
I would like to suggest on the Analytics screen, the total circle at the top be as a pie chart to colour code the various budget pots as I’m quite a visual person?
That’s a nice idea! So would you just want the chart to show what you’d spent your money on so far, and not how much money you had left to spend in each category?
So a bit of both. Ideally it would show what I have spent over the month but also include what I have left of my budget as it’s own colour coded section on the pie chart. Hope that makes sense?
For accounts that you can’t connect, where you have to add a manual loan or debt amount, would it be possible to setup a fixed monthly payment so the amount reduces rather than having to amend it manually each month?
Hii @Adi ![]()
Yep that is someting we’ve built - you can find out more info about it here! ![]()
It’s probably been added as a request before but if love to be able to add a manual account and hide it. For example I’d like to track my work pension. But I don’t want it reflected in my overall balance.
Yeah this is something we’d like to add
Committed Spending
The app tracks to the end of the month but my monthly pay hits on the 17th whilst my husband at end of month. I’d like a way to be able to change the date range as and when needed when reviewing our accounts.
Thanks
