What important features are we missing?

Hi guys. Are there plans to include an export function on the web app? Ie export your consolidated transactions and also holdings from likes of Nutmeg etc

Hey! Export function will be added to the web app. I can’t say exactly when, but will update here once it’s added!

re Nutmeg, would’ve been good to have a summary of holdings that user can export; as what I currently do is manually type this info in a csv

Will pass this along!

For me, Emma has everything apart from the ability to define a ‘category type’ for each category such as needs, wants and investments.

This would be useful because many people don’t budget at the category level, and instead could use this feature to roll up transactions by category type. This way a budget could be set at the category type level.

For example, holidays, shopping, eating out, etc… could all be assigned the ‘want’ category type and then in the budgeting section we can see spending on wants. A budget can then be set for wants to compare vs spending.

This is useful because in many cases it doesn’t make sense to have a monthly budget for a category since spending at the category level can vary so much month to month i.e. more holidays in the summer and more shopping in December. Defining a budget at a higher level of granularity allows for more flexibility of spending.

It would also be nice to see budgets at the year level as well as monthly - similar to how it works in the Analytics section. This would enable users to track how they’re doing in the long term.

At the moment I’m doing this manually by exporting my data but it would be great for this to be part of the app to limit the amount of manual work needed to get this insight.

Let me know what you think! Thanks

This would be great as this is how I also track my transactions offline (with ratio splits)

A yearly budget could be interesting, if this is something a lot of people are interested in I’ll make sure it’s put on the team’s radar!!

I’m also neurodiverse enough to have a real beef every time I look at my Emma screen and have no use for the Invest and Borrow tabs at the bottom. They don’t even require extra scrolling effort like the fraud detection/complete setup features - they’re just in your face permanently cluttering the interface.

One might even argue these would invite vulnerable users to bad financial decisions.

Can these be toggled off in the settings please?

(As a corollary I for one don’t use Save and Pay either - so perhaps give an option to turn off the entire bottom bar if only the Feed is wanted? Would give back some valuable screen real estate.)

We are adding this functionality before the end of the year:

Feed will be fixed; the others can be re-ordered or hidden.

Yes, a separate yearly budget for holidays. car and house insurance, TV licence, Xmas etc. etc. would be very useful.

Does an overspend roll over into the next month yet? I am new to Emma and this is a really important feature for me - I presumed when I signed up that it would be part of the rolling balance feature. I pay school fees every few months (so my budget is based on a monthly average). This simply won’t work if the overspend doesn’t roll over.

Currently don’t have overspend, only underspend roll over. However we’re working on adding and will keep you updated if there is any movement!!

Would love to see an adjustment to category budgets. Instead of a monetary amount, it was set as a %age of your set budget e.g groceries 10% of set budget

this is actually a great idea. I know some calorie tracking apps which already have this for tracking your macros and I find it super useful. I’ll suggest this to the team cheers Grant!

Hey hey - it’s been a little while since I posted this and still love using Emma…but this point still stands! Just want to make sure it’s been seen ahah

Thanks for posting; yes, I had seen this and this would be the equivalent of a “reconciliation” feature that you’d find in an accounting software. I think it makes sense, the main issue still stands with pending transactions, they wouldn’t be part of this list. It breaks in the same way as the editing.

Sorry maybe I’ve misunderstood, but not having pending transactions in the list is totally fine, right? It would just be those which have cleared. I am in favour of being able to edit pending transactions, but I understand there are issues with that, and so this acts as a nice alternative. i.e. if we cannot edit pending transactions, at least we have a section where they go once cleared, so we can edit them there, instead of tracing down the whole transactions list where it could be several days prior.

The ability to delete your Emma wallet

Under Budgeting would like separate Annual Budgets e.g. holidays, insurance etc.

I would really love a way to manually link transactions to merchants on both linked bank accounts if the automatic link fails, but more importantly, on manually added accounts.

Most of my merchant purchases are via a card i have to manually add, and to help with budgeting and analytics it would really help them going into the merchant budgets.
