What important features are we missing?

I’ve got an idea.

I’ve got my monthly budget for each category. However, there are “unexpected” and “annual” expenses that I don’t want to label with my monthly categories.

Say, for instance, you have a budget in Transport of £100 a month for petrol. Then, you pay for the annual car insurance. Where do you put it?

Option 1: Add it to Transport. You’ll be left the rest of the month with a “budget exceeded” situation.

Option 2: (what I’m doing right now) I created custom categories for Annual and Unexpected to add things like car insurance and I set no budget to them.

Option 3: exclude those transactions. The issue is when I look back at previous months I cannot compute the total amount I spent.

The issue with option 2 is that all categories are included in the Analytics section to calculate your overall monthly expenses. So, I’m still left with a monthly expense way over my monthly budget and I have to do mental gymnastics to know how my budget is actually doing.

Not sure what the solution would be. Right now I can think of the option of adding/removing categories from analytics.

Happy to elaborate if it wasn’t clear enough!

EDIT: I just read a reply from Edoardo in Oct 2023 that you are planning to allow excluding categories from Analytics. I guess that’d for my case!

Ability to add a note to a pending transaction. Sometimes you spend at merchant A but it shows up as Merchant X.

I get that preauthorisations exist and the final amount might change but it’d be nice to be able to write a reminder against the preauth as to what it is so I can correctly categorise it a few days later when I next log in.

Rather than having to then go back through my emails looking for the Amount to figure out what the heck I spent with “Merchant X” which is what I have to do today…

It the preauth matches the follow up transaction from the same merchant, it wouldn’t be that complex a logic to say “you added a note against a preauth for Merchant X for £10, it then came through as £10, do you want to pull the note you entered over?” (But ideally do it automatically)

Hey Daniel, welcome to the Emma community! :purple_heart:
Thank you for your suggestion. You’re right, the ability to exclude categories is coming soon.

Hey, welcome to the Emma community! :purple_heart:

Our product team is on it! Got any other features in mind?

Hi,

can we have BAE Systems Shares added to invest? I would also love to have something in investments where you can add your how many shares you have for a company, and then the value is updated with live pricing

Thanks for suggesting this!

At this point, we don’t support the London Stock Exchange, so we don’t have BAE. That’s the main reason.

Would love for you to support it - any timeline? I have a share incentive plan through work which is why I am keen! Also be good to see net worth

At this point, we don’t have a plan in place to support UK stocks, but it’s something we are monitoring. We’d love to have an ISA and ETFs available first.

Is there any chance of allowing permanent hiding of excluded transactions?

My feed is an absolute mess and it’s a little frustrating having to activate the removal of these transactions.

Only temporary removal is available, but I passed this message to our product team.
Thank you!

Hi all.

Fairly new to Emma and now getting up to speed and making it work for me.

Suggestion from me would be to build “known/upcoming” expenses for the month but not reoccurring and to be calculated into the budget and daily allowance.

Hi,

Not sure if it has been mentioned before. Smart Rules are a great tool, but it would be good to set up a rule so that the full transaction isn’t added.

For example, I contribute to a share scheme at work. When my salary comes in it would be useful to update my offline share account with the amount I have put in the share scheme but at the moment smart rules would add my whole wage to the account!

Hope that makes sense

Another thing - It would be good to select multiple transactions from the transactions list and then be able to bulk edit/change categories etc. I know when you change one, Emma checks for others but sometimes vendors use multiple businesses for payments (Uber for example) so it would be good to be able to select them directly from the transactions list and edit

Sorry last thing I promise… for now!

One thing when using offline accounts and you want to add all the transaction dates, its a bit of a pain having to use the calendar especially when you are going back a couple of years. Can we not add the dates from a drop down or type it in boxes like you do if you want to change the date?

Hey! Welcome to the Emma community! :purple_heart:

You can see these expenses in the “committed spending” feature under the budgeting circle. Is this what you were looking for?

The ability to upload own images for offline accounts?

@Am3012 thank you, Asim!

We are happy to hear your suggestions, so don’t hesitate to share more. Your input makes our job easier for the team. :purple_heart: :raised_hands:

Regarding smart rules, multiple transaction selection, and offline accounts - got it! I will transfer these ideas to our product team.

Hi! Is it possible to expedite the pending transaction time? It’s been over 5days and my transactions still say pending. Also, my new transactions aren’t being reflected. It feels like I’m paying for a service that I am not receiving. Having inaccurate information is just as useful as not having a budgeting app at all.

I previously found success with Mint, however with them no longer offering services, Emma is so far the most comparable. I would like to continue my membership with Emma however, this is quite frustrating.
