Emma 3.0 Designs

This is already out on Android (coming to iOS in the next few days).

This is more due to the fact that the Energy Market has crashed and there are no alternatives.

What’s the + / - calculations?

We currently have a progress bar, so it should be fairly visible.

We are launching Emma Invest (stock trading) next week.

Where do you mean this?

We can check, thanks

Re: days until payday being back:

Oh is it?
I am on Android and had the new look Emma since 8th April but can’t see this.
There is no update on Google play for me to update Emma to another version.
This is what I am on:

Similar feedback to others that I like the new design language but not the layout changes.

Removal of the accounts tab is really frustrating - I regularly used the line graphs and it was a simple way to move between and review individual accounts. The new nested navigation just feels clunkier - the old design of switching between tabs with common UI elements feels quite cohesive but having to navigate into and out of the breakdowns just feels overly clunky.

This doesn’t make sense to me when the tab navigation at the bottom is now pointless for some users. I don’t use pay via Emma and am already a pro user (why does this take a whole navigation item if you are already subscribed?).

I’d like to see the return of the accounts tab + graphs in the new design language. Most of the other changes I can live with even if they are a little jarring (E.g. the analytics feel unintuitive to find).

On a positive I do like the new net worth breakdown - it’s in a much more accessible location :+1:

Just a couple of feedback points from me so far .

I’ve over-spent this month but the red arrow in Analytics is pointing upwards, which is confusing

And it bothers me that there doesn’t seem to be any logic to the bar colours for the different budget categories!

Apart from that I’m happy to keep getting used to the new layout. I didn’t realise I’d developed muscle memory to tap at the bottom tab in the old layout to see analytics .

Also this is probably more a me-thing than an app-thing, but I’m struggling a bit to understand how budgeting and analytics are significantly different, since there seems to be a lot of overlap to the information. I’m open to my mind changing about that though, as I get used to it. Just thought I’d feed that back anyway.

Thank you to everyone at Emma for continuing to work so hard!

It seems like you are explaining the reasoning behind the changes. We’re just the users and we’re telling you how we feel about the changes.

Some users will enjoy the new app and won’t bother registering for the forum and posting about it. But there do seem to be a fair few comments here suggesting that it feels like a step backwards in many ways.

Just one opinion, but the changes to the graphs are enough for me to switch off, because that was a unique feature that other apps didn’t have. I didn’t have any savings accounts attached so not entirely sure I understood the reasoning behind the change. In fact the Santander money manager app used to have it, and I started using Emma because that was discontinued.
Wouldn’t need to be on the home screen, but a few options to see graphs of various time periods for total spend per category would be super useful.

Yes,

I think our internal reasoning is nice to share, since we can.

The ultimate reasoning is left to the metrics and the A/B tests. The new version wins, otherwise we wouldn’t have released it.

We can definitely keep improving it - we have a full time of mobile developers that does this every day.

We are changing the lines and the icons next week.

Definitely unhappy with the new update. I don’t like having first glace of my bank accounts as a combination of the total. I need to know what’s in each of them separately as they have different purposes. Also so disappointed that the analysis of tags has gone. What’s the point of having them if you can’t then see what you’ve spent on them, over a month or year or ever. It’s been a brilliant tool for my house rennovation and other projects that don’t fit in a category but I need to know what I’ve spent on them over time. I hope these come back as this is what really mae Emma stand out among all the other budget tracking apps.

The analytics of the tags it was one of the most useful feature of this app. Why would you remove it?
How can I get the total spent this month in #wants, #savings and #needs ?

I second this feedback, it would be nice to be able to easily see which categories are over or under. A minus next to any figures over budget would do this alternatively you could include the word over or under in bold next to the figure. The figure it’s self being bold is not much use when the explanation underneath it is so small.

The progress bar isn’t nice to look at at the moment with the muddled colours so I don’t think this provides the clarification you suggest it does. ( I know you’ve said you’ll update this) personally I really liked how the progress bars looked in the earlier version.

Thanks for the level of engagement with the community. I don’t feel that from other apps. :+1:t2:

Oh also I really miss the fun little greetings at the top of the app.

Disappointed with the new update myself.

I was holding out for a less childlike UI (maybe dark mode will help when it eventually arrives), but the new 3.0 interface seems to somehow have a cleaner design language but still manages to look ‘busier’ than before?

For a paid app, I’m annoyed at how much space is taken up in the bottom bar and homescreen by things that are aimed at making more money.

The only feature keeping me with Emma rather than something like Money Dashboard Neon which looks much more ‘grown up’ and was the hashtag analytics and now that’s gone?

When I recommended the app even to my 24 year old sister, she said she couldn’t use it as it looked too much like My Little Pony x Candy Crush.

And do we really need a dedicated button right at the top of the homepage for adding accounts? How often are people really doing that after initial setup?

Same goes for the refresh button as that can already be achieved with a swipe down.

Transfer button could then be merged into the Pay menu at the bottom, and without Save Money, Cashback and Quests clogging up the bottom of the screen, the last synced time could be moved down there instead.

Those changes would clean up the homepage and also mean the UI could be moved up enough that the bottom of the analytics section wasn’t chopped off without scrolling.

I think this is the weakest part of the redesign. The last time I tried Pay, it failed, so I’ve never been back to it. I go into Pro to manage my smart rules. But that’s basically it for two of three. And Feed doesn’t actually show a feed (I’d be happy with the long transaction feed) . It’s more like a noticeboard :man_shrugging:

I add new accounts all the time! I suppose Emma can’t be everything to everyone :joy:

Thought I’d give Pay another try. But when I tap the current account dropdown, it closes abruptly before I can select an account. Bug? Anyone had success with Pay in 3.0?
