I’ve just seen that Android 14 has a well-hidden built-in QR code scanner which is separate from the camera app. Have just tried it with QR code for Emma web login and it works fine on my Pixel (even though scanning the same code with the camera app results in a web search as you described in your next post).
Yes, the built-in QR code scanner should always work.
Anyone having fun with the web dashboard? ahah
Can you please build a trends feature? Mint.com allowed you to see spending in categories over time as a bar graph and calculate averages on their website app. This made it super easy to observe my average spending by category and how it fluctuates throughout the calendar year so that I can set data driven budgeting targets and realistically set budget and savings goals. Your app does not provide trends nor does it provide the ability to export transactions into Excel so that I could at least use Excel to plot trends. Thus, the best approach to creating a data driven budget is for me to manually copy my spending month by month, category by category, from the app/web into an Excel sheet – then an hour later I finally have visibility to my spending trends. This is time consuming and cumbersome. The lack of this feature is THE reason I haven’t paid to upgrade. Why would I pay for an app that requires me to do so much manual work to have visuals and insights into my spending so that I can created informed budget targets? Sigh. I will pay for the service when plotting of trends across spending is available. The Web dashboard will be SO much more powerful when you add interactive spending trends charts like Mint.com.
You can export your data from Settings - there is a functionality for this.
I am not sure how Trends looked in Mint, but we have something similar here:
I can see my average spending in Eating out for the past 8 periods and the spend period by period.
We should be adding all the actions on the transactions by early next week - same for search and the settings screen. We’ll have any available action in the Feed done by the end of August.
When can we expect to see the full net worth and pensions etc? Is that end of august?
I think so - we should be able to release all the actions in the transaction view + search this week. The team is working on recurring payments, analytics/budgeting and accounts (net worth included) as I am typing.
There is new functionality available now:
- Search
- Settings
- Any editing action in the transactions view (edit category, note, tags and so on)
Tried scanning the QR code with Google lens or a standalone QR code scanner, including the suggested one.
Google Lense doesn’t recognise the code at all. The suggested scanner brought up a web address that couldn’t be tapped or opened.
Another scanner let me tap the web address but this is how it opens for me.
Sadly nae luck for me on Android (Samsung Galaxy S20FE 5g; Android 13, Samsung UI 5.1):
What browser do you use?
ps: we are adding an Emma scanner in the app next week.
Default browser on phone is Samsung stock but also tried Chrome …
The issue here is that some Android phones open Google for no reason - the URL should go straight to the browser and redirect you to the app. The built in QR code (should be somewhere hidden in settings) also works fine.
In any case, the team has just finished building the QR code scanner; it’ll be in Emma next week.
We have also added all the actions available in Recurring payments last night. We are going to finish Analytics/Budgeting and Accounts/Overview next week.
I’ll look out for the app update with the inbuilt scanner and will try this
Enjoying being able to log on to desktop, appreciate the time needed to build it gradually! Looking forward to upcoming updates to bring it in line with the mobile version. Thanks!
When are we expecting to be able to add manual transactions on offline accounts?
You mean in the web version? We are building this now.
We can hopefully release next week.
yes, in the web version I meant. That’s great, thanks! And the ability to bulk upload transactions using a csv template for instance?
This is under our radar but I don’t have an update at this point.
