Hi, we have been using Emma for a while and it has been very useful in general. One issue is that we have an American Express credit card with two cards - a ‘Parent’ card and a ‘Child’ card. At the moment the ‘Child’ card has been used to import transactions to Emma, so we are missing some spending. We need to switch to the ‘Parent’ card.
a) Presumably we would then need to remove the ‘Child’ card to avoid duplicate transactions?
b) I am not sure how much historical data the new ‘Parent’ card would bring in - if not all two year’s worth, then how do we keep what we need and delete the duplicates?
b) We have a lot of historical data from the ‘Child’ card - is there an easy way to ‘bulk’ categorise / add notes or would we have to do it all manually?

thanks for reaching out.

Just to provide a bit of context, Amex works in “its way” and this is the current behaviour:

  • Parent card: this would import all the transactions but not the child card balance
  • Child card: this would only import the child card transactions and its balance

What you can do in this case is to try to import the Parent separately; if you get less transaction history, we’ll try to extend it for you (reach out to live chat). In terms of past edits, they should all be preserved.

If this works out - you can then delete the child card.

So just to check, we will try to add the parent card and see if we get the option of only importing the historical transactions of the parent card? If so, and it says eg only 6 months of history, should we then talk to support via chat before importing anything (so as to avoid duplicates if we try to import a longer history later)?

If it automatically brings in the transactions of the child card again, and we need to remove duplicates, does it help that I have exported the Emma history of that card (if someone on your side can help us delete the duplicates)?

The best way is to:

  • Add the parent card which will import everything
  • Delete the child one
  • Ask support to extend the history

The past edits should be preserved. :slight_smile:
