“IG Group Holdings plc (“IG”, “the Group”) is pleased to announce the acquisition of Freetrade, the fast-growing, commission-free, self-directed investment platform, for £160 million. The transaction will strengthen IG’s UK trading and investments offering and provide access to new customer segments and capabilities.”
Freetrade changed the UK investment landscape and there was a point where they were it… can’t take that away from them but yes it’s been borderline recently.
I invested in one of the early rounds, so I’ve made a profit. However I didn’t really understand until now the implication of investing alongside institutional investors who have preference shares. In particular how those investors are prioritised following a sale before crowdfunding investors get any exposure to the proceeds of the sale. Furthermore I’m pretty sure those types of investors only came in during later rounds. Has put me off making future crowdfunding investments.
