Emma integrating with IFTTT

Just been thinking about this again - if you do get IFTTT integration, this alone would be worth the Emma pro cost for me. I just love the idea of being able to integrate with Alexa through IFTTT - ‘Alexa, how much have I spent today?’ ‘Alexa, when’s my next payment coming up’?

Even things like, if I go overdrawn on any of my accounts, or if I hit a certain threshold, turn my smartbulbs red. This would be super cool and useful to me! I think you could do a lot of interesting and fun things with just read-only access to the information that Emma currently provides in the app.

Hey @Mudlark

This is something we are still working on but these ideas are all great.

In my case…‘Alexa do I have any money left?’ :joy:

Yes, we have paused it for a bit; but again, with our US expansion, it will make definitely sense.

+1 for IFTTT

I think the smart bulbs is an EPIC idea.

While I don’t have Alexa/Echo I would be tempted if we had an IFTTT integration

USE CASE - If I’m about to go over my overdraft change my Philips Hue bulb to red
True It would be red most months

I use IFTTT for many things - its an essential tool in my productivity arsenal.
A user case I’d like to see is using IFTTT Button Widgets to quickly transfer check any budgets I’ve set.
Example. Press an IFTTT Button Widget on my phone to see how much available beer money I have left in my budget

Other IFTTT uses could be…

“Hey Google/Alexa/Siri, ask Emma if I have any regular payments going out tomorrow?”

“Hey Google/Alexa/Siri ask Emma what the total spend for the this month is on petrol/diesel/fuel”
Results could be from a category or tag depending on IFTTT recipe.

Have my smart lights flash/turn red when a selected account drops below a preset amount.

Have Google Assistant/Alexa/Siri tell me my current account balance at a certain time every day. Example; include this as part of my Google Assistant Good morning routine.

I can think of many uses and would happily create IFTTT Emma recipes for anyone to use.

In a different thread I’ve been thinking how filters might be useful in the Emma Accounts tab

I think some of this functionality could also be useful if exposed through IFTTT (or some similar tool)

e.g.

  • If a particular account drops below a certain account value, issue a notification.
  • If a particular account balance changes by more than a certain value in a certain period of time, issue a notification.
  • If a particular account has more than a certain number of transactions in a certain period of time, issue a notification.
  • If a particular account has no activity for a certain period of time (dormant account or potentially an offline account I have forgotten to update), issue a notification.

I have access to IFTTT integration through my Monzo account but I’ve never used it.
However, if I have access via Emma I think I probably would simply because Emma provides a more holistic view of my finances.

Some really good ideas here :clap:

Unfortunately we don’t have an ETA for this, but we’re happy to hear more use cases as you think of them!
