Emma 3.0 Designs

If these two features have been designed and are still on the roadmap then it sounds like we’ve all been a bit agressive with our feedback of an early release because we don’t know what’s yet to come

Maybe it’d help if you could summarise what is definitely going to be re-added, and what new features are coming?

As of now, we are working to:

  • Improve the budgeting part (progress and list to set them)
  • Redesign Pay/Groups
  • Include some missing items in the feed (save/cashback/invite/quests) - first two will be moved to the Save tab once we have it. This is where we are going to launch savings accounts with real deposits.

For analytics, we have plans to add committed spending (doing it now), add a filter by whatever date/period and bring a piechart.

The team will also rollout a waitlist for Emma Invest, after we fully release the new design.

Nice. I think re-adding this back would be good:

A few of us have clearly cast our vote regarding the hovering button in this thread - would be good for paid users to switch off.

It would be interesting for you to poll paid users on what they prioritise out of the app. For myself I’m only interested in analytics and budgeting - not so much savings etc (of course I understand the business need to introduce new cash generating products, and to be able to offer everything relating to finance in one app). But I think it’d be interesting to see what matters most to all users (would feed back into what tabs should be at the bottom, UX etc)

One thing we haven’t discussed is Savings Goals - where can these sit to make it easier to view progress?

They’re currently hidden behind having to tap Cash at the top, then scroll to Savings, then tap the individual account - and there’s just a % at the top. (I currently have goals attached to Starling Spaces that appear as separate accounts). Nova Money is a good example of making goals really clear.

I think we are going to prioritize having real savings pockets in the next few months, so for now we have kept them where they were.

Nice! I hope they will be compatible with existing savings accounts though - I like my workflow with spaces in Starling for example. I just want to be able to create clear savings goals with progress indicators. (I know you’re working on Emma savings accounts, but I think it’s important the functionality for linking to existing accounts is there)

In terms of all the “bugs” reported, we are fixing and releasing a new version this week.

I signed up for this a while back but I still dont see it – have I been activated? emma.to/adamscybot

Agree with most points above - probably most strongly agree with (1) moving the Quest button so it’s not so prominent and (2) bringing back the progress bars on budget categories which I appreciate is being worked on (also liked that we could previously pick colours with the emojis for each personalised category as I had mine colour-coded depending on type of category - would love this back?)

Would it be possible to enable some categories to “roll” monthly as opposed to the whole budget rolling? Then we could select certain categories that fluctuate more on a monthly basis to roll, and others that are more stable to not. Use case scenario: I have numerous “social” categories like eating out, Ubers, nights out, etc. where spending is higher in busier months, so if I could roll the “average” budget I set in my full budget, I can visualise the recouping of higher spends when I’m in a low spend (quieter) month.

Maybe also a slightly niche request but I’d love to be able to apply the ‘split payment’ function properly to some of my subscriptions - I have recurring bill payments that I share with housemates and every so often, the smart subscriptions tool undoes my manual splitting and reverts back to the full payment amount. I understand e.g. £90 is going out of my account monthly but I’d like to visualise that only e.g. £30 is my “committed spending”.

Also, I know it’s been requested 1000 times already, but dark mode is EAGERLY awaited heh. Loved the suggestion that maybe there could be ‘theme’ format options too.

P.S. Love “smart rules”, that was a great shout for offline accounts.

Yes, just make sure to be on the latest and close/open the app.

This says “us” as emma.to?

So a few comments / gripes:

Generally I use Emma to see all of my accounts in one place. I don’t really have time to tag everything, set budgets etc. though I’m sure that’s very useful for people.

Previously I could just swipe between current accounts, savings, investments etc. But now I have to go back to the main feed to select one of those categories. Extra clicks = extra effort, and it spoils the experience for me.

Also - upcoming payments. I used to find this very useful as it would give me a total at the top of this page. I could ensure I had enough money in my account to cover all future outgoings in the month ahead. Now this total seems to have vanished. I’d love to get it back.

Where was this? If you are referring to committed spending, this will be both in Analytics and Budgeting.

Yes in “committed spending”. It would tell me how much I’ve got coming up for the rest of the month.

I can’t see it in budgets or analytics. Maybe I’m not looking in the right place?

Hmmm, I think I’ve found it. But I have to set up a budget in order to see if. But I don’t want that. I just want to see what the total of my upcoming committed spending is, at the top of my “committed spending” section, like in the previous design.

Feels like usability has taken a bit of a hit in this release.

It’s coming, the app is not final - we are going to ship another update today/tomorrow.

Hey, thanks for the update.
Currently my back button doesn’t work, I have to use the top left back rather than my phones native button (oneplus 7 pro)
The colours on the budget category icons have gone, which is a shame as I used the colours to help group the categories.
When I look at the manual account transactions, the bottom transaction is covered by the “add transaction” button.
Still coming to grips with it.
