The best example I can think of is payments through Apple for various Apps or Subscriptions. Tags and Categories don’t seem to be smart e.g. if I manually update a certain transaction to a specific category and tag it then the next payment to Apple also gets assigned that category and tag.
Am I doing something wrong or is this a smart rule feature request for Tags and Categories?
This is the feature request and it’s something we have been thinking for a while; we originally implemented learning as a “smart feature”, but we have also realised killing the learning and giving everyone the option to set smart rules for edits could be a better way to do this.
Learning would be great as a default but then once a manual edit is done it’s disabled for future transactions for that company. Most of the time it’s fine but for companies like Apple & Amazon where your transactions could be for different categories it doesn’t work so well. I am thinking this would be even more important once subcategories are available.
Does the feature request already exist or will this be turned into one? Can I track it anywhere?
As of today, the way it works is that we look at the merchant and pick the category based on the majority of edits; so if Amazon has been categorised for Groceries for more than 60%, any future transaction will be in Groceries.
We don’t have a live tracker for this; but we are taking a look at categorisation and we’ll be shipping a few changes in the coming days.
