Re-calculate rolling budget after changing the past

I recently started using the Rolling Budgets feature and I had a question and possibly a request about it. I enabled rolling budget last month, so this is the first month I’m seeing it in action.

Question: is the rolling budget re-calculated when I move a transaction to a previous month?

Context: When I get a refund for a product I returned, I move the refund to the same date as the purchase, to "zero out” the cost for that month. Sometimes I also just want something to fall under the previous month’s budget (e.g. expense from a trip last month). I did that recently, moving a transaction from November to October and the rolling budget was not updated.

Is this expected? Why? It makes sense to me that the rolling budget would be updated for every month after the month to which I moved the transaction.

This brings me to another small request I had when I was enabling rolling budget: to be able to backfill the rolling budget starting from a specific month. I enabled the feature last month and I can only see its benefit in November. If I was able to backfill it, I would do it from January and see how my budget was rolled over throughout this year.

I’ve had the same need but more that i had transactions in the previous month pending and and were then confirmed after the new budget started so my tolled over amount was incorrect as those transactions weren’t counted in the previous or current budget. It would be good for budgets to recalculate the rollover amount daily or on refresh so the numbers are always accurate

Is something like this in the plans? Ideally when any changes are made to past months, the ones that come after are automatically recalculated, but if you could expose an option like “Reset budget from date”, where we could manually do it, it would be extremely helpful!

Yeah id love a reset budget from date button but at least having emma recalculate automatically would be great. I did message live chat and they said an engineer was looking into it but that was a few weeks ago

Is there a live support chat in the app? I didn’t know that

TBH it looks like it should be something very simple to implement. @edoardomoreni any chance that something like (at least the button to manually trigger recalculation) this could be shipped by the end of the year?

Is there maybe a way around this with the existing feature set?

I started using rolling budgets last month, but in practice I won’t be able to rely on it because of the many changes I make after the month is over.

BTW, another example of why I need this is when I pay things for someone and they pay me back the next month. I move the transaction to the same day as the one I paid, to remove the “loan” from the category budget.

I haven’t had any update from live chat about the issue im hoping my case hasn’t just been ignored

i theory should be simple to do to recalculate budgets on refresh

Is there any update on this fix

Hi @Vladanm999, we took the feedback, but we have not prioritised this!
