Joint account split 50/50

Hi Emma community

My partner and I both use Emma, and we love it. But one thing that’s driving us mad is our joint account. We have a joint monzo account, and because we contribute 50/50 to the account, we would like transactions from that account to be automatically reduced by 50% in each of our accounts. Currently what we do is we manually split each transaction from that account in two, and we exclude one of the halves. I have by now spent countless hours manually splitting all transactions from this account, which is not a good user experience.

Maybe there is feature for this already that I’m just not seeing?

The best way to deal with this is to open an Emma Space and move the joint account there, so it doesn’t impact the rest.

Thanks for responding! But I’m not sure that solves our issue.

This is what the help page says

By using Spaces, you can keep your spending for joint accounts separated from your personal accounts. Previously, all the spending on your joint account was included in your personal spending and analytics.

I don’t want the transactions from our joint account to be removed - I am responsible for 50% of those transactions. So I want 50% of all joint transactions to come into my spending and count towards my category budgets.

Will I be able to do that in spaces? Or is there another way to do this? Ideally I can have a rule that can put a 0.5 multiplier on just this join account.

Hi @Zakaria,

the best way to deal with joint accounts is to move them in a Space.

In this way, you can set shared budgets on the joint account and you can make the app count transfers to the joint as spending by removing them from the Transfers category.

There is no way in Emma to divide everything by 2 at this stage.

The categories in analytics are also able to offset each other, so if you are just sharing bills - getting paid back and moving everything one category works even better.
