Curve Discussion & Feedback

I love curve. It would be great if Emma integrated with curve so curve transactions still showed retailer information etc. in Emma :+1:

Hey @stuartmckeag, thanks for sharing!

Yes, we have had a few requests for this one.

Does anyone know how Curve is coming along with their legal action against Amex? I was just about to get an Amex but won’t if I can’t use it with Curve

I don’t think there is any ā€œlegalā€ thingy to do about that.

Despite some of Curve’s rather questionable recent decisions, they’ve recently released Google Pay and Fitbit/Garmin support which is a bit of a game changer. Having Curve, and therefore all my cards, on my wrist at all times is neat.

Indeed. Their recent changes haven’t gone down well over on the Curve Community page. If they could release Apple Pay that’d make me a happy camper…

Apple Pay is now live from Curve and all customer can get it including Legacy Black.

I’m now a happy camper!

@Joel my Curve card has just arrived! :raised_hands:

(Sorry @TheMightySwordfish I tried to use your ref code, but it just wasn’t working :slightly_frowning_face:)

First impressions: It was super simple to order and was quick delivery, but the card I have does feel quite a lot cheaper than my other cards? Obvs not a deal-breaker, but just doesn’t feel as swish as say my Monzo/ Starling card.

I’ve added three accs onto it so far, and am excited to start using it!

Interested to know how everyone else uses their Curve card? What cool things can you do on it that I might not know about yet?

Just don’t expect any customer service when things go wrong…

You might not know about Go Back in Time?

That’s a feature where you can change which card you’ve charged after a purchase has happened (the ā€œwrongā€ card’s purchase get’s refunded and the purchase is charged instead to your other selected card).

You can also get email receipts of purchases automatically, which is useful for something like claiming expenses. I think some people have even used the email receipts to automatically fill in a spreadsheet (after doing some extra work, I think through IFTTT).

The flimsy feeling you mention may just be because the card is not embossed and is therefore flat in the hand? I felt like this at first with un-embossed cards, but I think it’s mostly psychological and you get over it.

The other cool thing is that Curve supports Apple Pay so you can add it to Apple Pay and then use Apple Pay on unsupported cards via Cubre!

Uh oh are they known for being useless in that area?

Ahh yeah, I was wondering if they would have a feature like this. Do you find that you often accidentally pay on the wrong card?

Ooo nice! I’m team Google (but I think they support Google Pay too?)

Woohoo!

Yup, they support Google Pay as well.

I have my Nectar loaded on it which has turned out to be really really useful when I’m at Sainsbury’s. Pretty sure you can upload most reward cards on it

As a customer service person, I’m curious what you’re expecting? Is it safe to assume you’ve had poor experiences with the Curve team?

I’ve added about 9 different loyalty cards onto it now - they even accepted my Tortilla rewards card. Pretty cool!

Can’t you just store that in the Apple Wallet?

Probably Google Pay, too

Curve really is actually very awkward for this, an extra app to open to get to it when the idea of Curve is literally not having to fuss around with a wallet (but if I’m fumbling around with an app, what’s the difference?)

Curve CS is based in Bristol and you’ve probably got a better chance knocking on their office than a coherent timely reply by anyone in back office. Front of line support on Twitter for example is useless and can’t do anything, but is speedy

They also can’t make exceptions at all (my broker sent Ā£2000 to my Curve instead of to my bank and Curve told me to spend it  )

Furthermore, just because I like bashing Curve: a) they have no business that can ever make a profit and b) their USP degraded the second AmEx was removed and c) GBIT is not a feature that will last long (since Apple Wallet/Google Pay is infinitely more intuitive)

Not really, but sometimes you just want to spend and then worry about making sure it was the right card later, if that makes sense?

So I usually leave Curve set to a credit card that I know it will go through on, and then if I need to move a transaction it will probably all have settled down by the time the credit card bill is due.

Also, if you use Curve online, which can be useful as you get the notifications so you will know when you get billed, sometimes you will get billed later (not Curve’s fault) at a difficult to predict time, so for that it’s good to be able to move the transaction as it can easily end up on the wrong card!

Yeah but imagine you need the money back? Good luck with Curve, credit card will refund you !

I’ve had refunds via Curve before and they usually haven’t been a problem.

Only once, I think, I got refunded to Curve Cash instead of the underlying card because they couldn’t reconcile the transaction. It was fine.

You don’t get Section 75 protection, so I wouldn’t use it for a big purchase, but you do get Mastercard chargeback rights so it’s not a zero protection situation.

Man I wish I was in the same boat, had a £2k transfer to Curve Cash and ended up having to top-up Starling and Revolut for £250 a day each for a while

If I can’t use it for all my purchases isn’t it kind of useless? Curve should rework their business model or ditch their ā€œCurve Protectionā€ with a legally binding contract w/ customers to follow S75 protection, as this will be something the FoS could then handle the relative enforcement of it

It’s not useless if you can’t use it for all your purchases, especially if you can use it for most.

General purchases for me aren’t expensive enough to qualify for Section 75 protection anyway, and they are usually things I’m unlikely to need to litigate later (like food I’m going to eat straight away) so it doesn’t matter.

If I’m buying a new iPhone, that would be something I would buy directly with a credit card.

I’m fine with that.
