Could Someone Give me Advice on Optimizing Budgeting with Emma?

Hello there,

I have recently started using the Emma app to manage my personal finances; and I am impressed with its features so far. Although; I am looking for some advice on how to optimize my budgeting strategy using Emma to better track and manage my expenses.

Specifically; I am interested in understanding how to effectively utilize the apps features for budgeting purposes.

How do you categorize your expenses in Emma? I am trying to figure out the best way to set up my budget categories to get a clear view of where my money is going. Any tips on customizing categories or creating sub categories would be appreciated.

What strategies do you use for setting budget limits within the app? I want to make sure I’m setting realistic goals and tracking my spending accurately. How do you balance between setting strict limits and allowing for some flexibility?

What are your go to methods for tracking and analyzing spending in Emma? Are there any specific reports or features in the app that you find particularly useful for understanding your financial habits?

Also, I have gone through this post; https://community.emma-app.com/t/how-to-stick-to-a-budget-blue-prism/ which definitely helped me out a lot.

How do you manage multiple accounts and expenses? I am curious about how others handle integrating various bank accounts; credit cards; and subscriptions to get a comprehensive view of their finances.

Thanks in advance for your help and assistance. :innocent:

I mostly just use a total budget and don’t look at the specific categories.

The total budget is what I want to spend per month; it doesn’t include any savings or investments.

What I want to spend per month is less than what I make, so if I stick to the budget I am saving.

Personally I have used the export feature to download information to Excel and then forecast and budgeted within that.
This proved useful when I lost the Smile banking link and latterly the Barclaycard link (which lost my history) as I still had both in my Excel files. So I would always download and use Excel for Budgeting.
