[NEW] Pending Transactions Categorisation

Id like to understand the blocker. Amex is notorious for its long pending states. It can massively scew budgeting. If pending was to into committed spending perhaps it would help.

If you make a large spend on Amex, it can be days before your budget is up to date.

Daily budget is always screwed due to this too, even on normal spending. You’re always lagging days because of pending and it’s defeating the purpose of what Emma is trying to solve.

We are just prioritising other features until we come back to this.

I understand priorities change, but looking back, it was mentioned that this would be done in “the next few weeks” in April 2025.

Can we get any real indication of how much longer for this?

For pending transactions, we have covered a first batch of banks and then have moved the focus elsewhere; it’s unpredictable work that we can not control. Even if we focus months on it, this will never be perfect or accurate unfortunately. At this stage, we have several new products under our plate (ISA transfers, JISA, Credit Score/Report), so once we find some space, we’ll defo improve the existing functionality.

We have an engineer working on this full time and going through all the major banks; the goal is still the same, don’t make transactions pending in Emma.

I’ve noticed recently that pending BACS credits, which HSBC show as pending the working day before receiving them, are being treated as already received by Emma. I get my main income tomorrow, so it’s showing as pending in my HSBC account but I’ve already had the “Money in!” notification from Emma saying that I have received it.

In the past it remained as pending in Emma until it was actually credited to my HSBC account.

Hi @MikeZ,

we are working to make pending disappear in Emma - we can check this use case and review if it makes sense to keep it pending or not; but I assume the former.

Has there been a change? Amex pending shows as cleared and editable now?

We are getting close.

My pending transaction a since yesterday are editable as if cleared.

41.83 I just spent in Lidl like 30 mins ago and it shows on sync as a cleared transaction and I can re-categorise etc

I’ve told you we are working on it.

Hi. This is wonderful. All my Santander current account entries are now editable, and Wise, and Amex. Great work.

There are obviously some type of transactions that will unfortunately stay pending; these are the pre-authorisations or some delivery platforms where the initial charge doesn’t match the settled one.

Has anyone else found how pending transactions display is hit and miss at the moment? Some go straight to the date they happened on and reduce my budgets but others sit under Pending until cleared with the respective bank. Thanks

Mine has reverted back to pending not being able to be edited.

A new strangeness, is how transactions are moving back to pending but keeping their edited state.

I actually liked this but am left wondering why that happened and whether transactions may change again in the future.

If you spot any weird behaviour, feel free to report it here; we are trying to get this done but it’s extremely tricky.

I am wondering if it’s possible to have a toggle to switch on/off the editing of pending transactions.

Whilst some transactions are correctly recognised and don’t appear as pending under that heading here in Emma (and allow me to edit), some still change or lose my descriptions or tags and date amendments when they are no longer pending with the bank.

With pending transactions still being a tricky subject for Emma’s app, I think I’d prefer these to show as pending until they clear with the bank so that Emma then picks this up also from where I then only need to amend the transaction once and not twice (when it actually clears at the bank).

At the moment, I have to cross reference the transaction with my bank app where I can identify transactions that are still pending whisky they look cleared on Emma before they change again.

Thanks :slightly_smiling_face:
