Disappointed about your referral offer

I feel unhappy about how you promote your refer-a-friend offer. I received Edoardo’s email regarding 1 Friend £50 offer yesterday. I thought it’s a good offer and then invited friends to join but then found the precondition of the new user becoming a paid user is hiding in the T&C which couldn’t be easily seen.

I feel very disappointed and being taken advantage of. I myself am a paid user having a good impression on Emma until yesterday. Now I feel your growth target (pushed by VC?) outweighed your customer’s experience, especially when this was sent from CEO’s email.

It says in the email they have to “subscribe”.

Do you think it would be better if it said “sign up to a Pro subscription”?

I always assumed this was referral to Emma Pro really.

This is on the invite screen (and in the email). It says “join and subscribe”.

It’s not physically possible for us to pay £50 for a referred friend, no company can.

I get how you feel @igrasia.

Like what Gaoler suggested above, perhaps the CEO message could be clearer?

It is not about whether Emma can afford to pay £50 for a new free user, it is about being crystal clear about the condition of getting the referral rewards to avoid disappointment after the user has done the work.

Sorry I might not be as smart as you, or I was spoiled by emails sent by other companies who assume their clients know nothing. I received an email from Revolut today elaborating what a user shall do to be eligible for an offer. That’s something I can understand.

What do my friends need to do?

  1. Sign up to a Revolut account using your unique referral link
  2. Add money by connecting their bank or debit card
  3. Order a physical Revolut card
  4. Complete 3 purchase transactions with their new Revolut card (can be through a virtual card while they wait for their physical one)
  5. All before 13-May-2021,11PM-GMT
