Monzo Pots / Starling Goals (Transaction feed)

Some thoughts:

  1. Excluded (as a category) should net to 0 - if it doesn’t a way to see the true value, perhaps a long press or something to show the net position.
  2. Balances in Emma - without transactional backup - bizarre - could create a closed manual account and add the transactions there - bit its an annoying work around.
  3. Categorised transactions but the ability to set them to excluded from analytics - this would mean you can keep literal excluded dr/cr/net 0 in excluded and other exclusions that do not net to zero in a category of there own. Use case for this being credit card “debt” as opposed to credit card spending and clearing at statement. The latter makes sense to go in excluded. The former does not - I’d want to categorise paying off the credit card as bills and then this throws out the other side that’s excluded. For this I’ve tried spaces again to put the credit card accounts there - ones that are essentially like paying off loans rather than my amex that get cleared monthly - but this then thows off the net worth. I guess spaces with a consolidated space would overcome this.
  4. The ability to link and unlink - it should force the user to net 0.

There is little reliance that can be put on the app analytics - there isn’t enough controls to put comfort that it’s correct. Each time you export and analyse it there there’s things lumped in excluded that are not… etc

By the way, I’ve asked the team to review Monzo pots; we have made a couple of small changes this week.

The first one is that we are not sending anymore notifications for withdrawals from pots. The second is we are going to enrich the transactions name with the name of the Pot. As of today, they all read as “Monzo Pot”.

Could you please explain the change - I am not sure I can see any noticable difference on how it works.

Hey new user here :waving_hand: I can see movement into and out of Starling Spaces. But I can’t see the transactions leaving the Spaces.

For example I have a utilities space where I pay water, energy and council tax… I’d like to define all three payments in Emma.

Am I missing something?

Hi @EmmaBee,

I don’t think Starling returns transactions via their API, but I can check this with the team.

You should be able to see the Pot name on the transaction.

Thanks for the swift response. I think this is a dealbreaker for me if I can’t see the transactions in the individual spaces. Was hoping to replace my spreadsheet with a smarter solution and being an Emma, couldn’t think of a more perfect app!

On my starling statement I can see just a regular list of transactions from every space, so hoping the answer is yes.
